Winged Words Caught on the Hop

We took a break yesterday--a beauty break--when we visited the "Butterflies of Brazil" exhibit at Cincinnati's Krohn Conservatory. Sharing some of the sights, along with accompanying quotes--wings of beauty, wings of words. Hope you enjoy!

"Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead
you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine." --Jeffrey Glassberg

"What would a butterfly quote, on looking in the mirror? It would say, the adventure was worth it!"
                                                                                                                   --Manali Oak

"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly,
"one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower."--Hans Christian Anderson

"Butterflies...flowers that fly and all but sing." --Robert Frost

"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes
it has gone through to achieve that beauty." --Author Unknown

"Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you." --Nathaniel Hawthorne
(*this one perched on hubby's shoulder for at least 20 minutes!)

"It is necessary to write, if the days are not to slip emptily by. How else, indeed, to clap the net over the butterfly of the moment? For the moment passes, it is forgotten...That is where the writer scores over his fellows: he catches the changes of his mind on the hop."
                                                                                                                             --Vita Sackville-West

Happy rest of the weekend with wishes for a great new week ahead--filled with sunshine, adventure, flowers, beauty, and a few winged words caught on the hop!

  1. Lovely.

Our little ones just became chrysalids and are almost ready for their netting home.

Release day will be so fun.

Now where to let them go??

  3. Rebecca, I'm fascinated--do you have your own little butterfly community that you and your kids watch develop? That would be a fun story to read about!

Kimberly, butterfly exhibits are fantastic places to visit, aren't they? Glad to hear you enjoy them, too :-)

  5. I love the quote about what a butterfly would say on looking into a mirror. My younger son once found a large green caterpillar. He brought it home in a quart size drink cup from the local 7-11. The caterpillar spun a chrysalis (which turned pink - the cup had held a cherry coke)! We left the cup outside on the porch and pretty much forgot about it.

After a long winter, we went outside one day to see the moth clinging to the outside of the cup. It stayed there quite a while, drying its wings, before it flew off. Later, I looked it up in the encyclopedia and found out it had no mouth parts. It would live just one day, mating, and then dying. I'm guessing it would say the adventure was worth it.

Writing is our adventure. And it's worth it. Thanks for your post, Kenda.
