October 2016 |
"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." --L.M. Montgomery
There is just something about October. I always thought September was a special month, but October days--especially for taking morning walks--has been simply beautiful this year. Getting out in the air, clearing cobwebs from the mind, gathering thoughts, collecting ideas and images, going forward a step at a time in both distance and in plotting the story...
October is my inspiration month this year!
Thus a gallery of a few images and quotes I gathered along the way:
"I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air." --Nathaniel Hawthorne
"Even if something is left undone, everyone must take time to sit still and watch the leaves turn." --Elizabeth Lawrence
"October gave a party, the leaves by hundreds came--
The Chestnuts, Oaks and Maples, and leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet, and everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing, Professor Wind the band." --George Cooper
"Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day." --Shira Tamir
"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting, and autumn a mosaic of them all." --Stanley Horowitz
"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile." --William Cullen
Hope October is bringing you smiles, too. What things are you gathering this month?

October is one of my favorite months - for all the reasons you show in your photos! I am, unfortunately, spending way too much time either grading papers or writing. Maybe I'm "gathering my wits"? :-)
ReplyDeletePeggy, love the quip about 'gathering my wits'--I'm with you on that one! Do hope you can free up some time, though, to get out in the open air as Hawthorne says, although I would never advocate giving up writing to do it. Now grading papers is another story... :-) Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOctober is one of my favourite months. Love the pictures Kenda.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachna--glad you stopped by :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, October is my favorite too! I'd love for it to last a few more weeks. :) Glad it's cooled down a bit now as the colors are gearing up for a big show.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the quotes and pictures. Have a great weekend!
Thank you, Karen, for stopping in. Glad you liked the quotes/pictures. It's another beautiful October day here. Hope you've been able to get out and enjoy it, too!
ReplyDeleteFall has become my favorite season, and October one of my favorite months. I always get a certain feeling inside that seems linked to a change in the air and light. I liked all of the quotes, but especially the Elizabeth Lawrence quote.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, you've pointed out a key to the beauty of October--change in the air and light. Hadn't really thought about it in those terms, but you're right and I heartedly agree. Thanks for sharing. Will think about this on my next walk--should still be able to get one in before the month ends!
