Color and Emotion

On June walk 2015
"The idea of linking color and behavior is reasonable enough. Anyone who has ever felt blue, seen red, blacked out, or turned green knows we're prone to make emotional associations with different shades." --Winifred Gallagher

Seeking a purple calm in a season of busyness--what color emotion are you feeling at the moment?

A new month ahead. Happy July!

  1. Happy July to you too! I agree, color can do many things - inspire, calm, and even agitate. Earthy greens always soothe me. Happy 4th weekend!

  2. Love this! Just this morning I looked up the Feng Shiu colors for each month of the year, and I am definitely feeling this month's color: yellow green. Life is oh- so fresh these days. Enjoying every moment of the exquisitely long days of early summer.

  3. Hope your July is special and filled with excitement! I am not sure what my color would be this month--maybe yellow as that makes me feel content.

  4. Thanks, girls--I loved learning what your "color" choices are! Earthy green (soothing), yellow green (freshness), yellow (contentment). Speaks of your personalities, too, I think :-) Thanks so much for sharing...

  5. I had a busy weekend with my grandchildren, followed by some really productive writing and registration for a conference in September I've been looking forward to. So now I guess I have my "rose-colored glasses" on! :-)

Seriously, I was thinking about this post. There is such a strong connection between emotions and writing. We set the scene with blue skies or dark shadows. I wonder if I'd write a better scene if I sat in a room that put me in the right mood!

  6. You've posed a good question, Peggy--what mood does the room (office) I'm sitting in at the moment put me in? Well, if I look at the white and black jumble of word files and unfinished projects all around me, I'd say it puts me in an agitated mood ("arggghh, I can't get it all done!"). But I can also look out the window at a summer green in a light gray mist of rain and imagine all kinds of pleasant scenarios. Gotta' separate myself from one and travel in the other! Glad you had a good weekend with kids, writing, and making plans. I can see why you're sporting those rose-colored glasses :-) Thanks for stopping by...

  8. Thank you, Jess!! I must say, it was a surprise. They accepted it for publication two years ago. I had almost given up hope that they were really going to use it. So imagine my surprise when I opened the page to it. Always a thrill to see your name in print:-)
