"You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut."
--Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut
I've been trying to keep my eyes open this month since deciding to pick up the Photo-A-Day challenge (I first mentioned the challenge here), and run with it. Thought I'd share the results. I'm not sure yet what will come of this, except to say I've already found myself more tuned into details, looking for patterns, appreciating textures, drawn to color, reaching back nostalgically, and recording some of those things that have special personal meaning. How will this relate to writing? Don't know yet, except to say that the right side of the brain has been engaged a bit more, ideas are starting to grow, prompts are developing, and...well...I managed to stick to a goal--at least for 31 days. And I find myself looking forward to what February might bring!
Take a peek:
Any favorites, curiosities, or attention-getters jump out at you, catch your imagination? I'd love to know which ones caught your eye!
And do you think you might attempt such a challenge? Why or why not?

Very interesting. I guess I relate most to the human face, albeit a snowman's face. It has an emotional expression built in. The others evoke certain types of emotions within me as well.
ReplyDeleteI'd dearly love to try such a challenge. Just don't foresee when I could fit it on my plate. I am currently getting ready to leave Kauai and am excited to create a Kauai scrapbook. I am also thinking of doing the A-Z challenge with Kauai as my theme. (But no decisions as of yet.)
I love the Joy picture with the red cup full of hollyberries (maybe? or something similar).
ReplyDeleteCatherine-Loved that the expression on our little snowman's face caught your eye, and that other photos evoked emotions for you, too. I'm learning as I go about different elements to look for in visual storytelling, but I've got a lot more to learn...And I'd say that with scrapbooking (Hawaii? Wow, what photos you must have captured!) and the A-Z Challenge, you've already got enough going without doing a photo a day. I've considered the A-Z, but don't know if I can fit that on my plate :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd Karen--Glad you like the "joy" pitcher. It's supposed to be a Christmas decoration, but it's so colorful, and has such a positive message, I leave it out most of the year.
I'm always drawn to nature photos. Love the one with the tree branches covered in ice. (And thankful not to have seen that first hand yet this winter!)
ReplyDeleteI do take lots of photos, though they're nearly all pictures of the four cutest grandchildren to ever walk the face of the earth. :) I'd love to do more, but I really can't take on anything else. I have to say, though, that I do get plenty of inspiration from looking at the photos I do take.
Thanks for sharing yours!
I'm like Peggy~ always drawn to the nature photos~ from the grass to the tree branches to the railing (?) covered in ice, those definitely caught my eye. I also liked the stone wall and the pencil :)
ReplyDeletePeggy--Keep taking pix of those grandkids! I'd love to see some of them someday :-)Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jess--thanks for dropping by, too :-) It's been fun to see what pictures jump out for each commenter. The stone wall is right outside our back door just beyond the patio, the railing is at the back steps. And the pencil? Just playing around with shavings one day after sharpening the pencil. Trying not to spend too much time setting up a picture, but so far still having fun...
I like all of these photos - they are very captivating with their bright colors. For some reason, the snowman caught my eye. Maybe because it's February and we haven't seen any snow yet.
ReplyDeleteThey are all interesting! The quilted flowers caught my eye first, and then the drawing on the left, first row of the second grouping. Reminds me of something my grandson drew recently. I think this would be fun to try. I've been wanting a camera, and this would be a good excuse to get one!
ReplyDeleteLauren--thanks for your vote. Snowmen do bring out the best in winter, don't they?
ReplyDeleteKaren--glad you found the pictures interesting:-) The quilted flowers come from a quilt my mom made. She worked on it one winter when my dad was in the hospital and said it was a good therapy project for her at the time. It's on the bed in the room we stay in when we visit. The drawing is by my 3 1/2 yr. old granddaughter, so looks like both our grandkids are in the next talented group of artists, aren't they? And, though the last picture (of the clock) is hard to read, it would be perfect for you! It says, "Write Now"--notice there are no numbers to tell you the time--which of course is the title of your blog. My writer friend/critique group member Connie gave it to me...
I like all the photos, the colours are all bright and the pics are quite attractive.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Kenda! I love the nature ones, but I especially like the old photos. I'm a sucker for history.

I love the child's drawing and the holly berries. The ice on the rail is lovely too. These are really nice, Kenda! *waving*
ReplyDeleteLove the Dr. Seuss quote! And the photo the caught my eye was the 'write now' clock - something I've been training myself to do, whether I feel like it or not!
ReplyDeleteWanted to thank you for stopping by Life Lessons! So glad you enjoyed the interview with Karen. It IS nice to know that even rejection can be used to get us where we need to go. Have a fantastic week. God bless!
Thanks, Rachna, Debbie, and Robyn for dropping in! And thanks, Maria, for the visit, comment--and follow. Glad to meet you :-) And you've brought me to the 100-follower milestone--double the thanks! I had a 100-follower give-away planned, so stay tuned for the announcement of the winners...
ReplyDeleteFun, what a great project! I think these pictures are really creative! Maybe creativity in one form helps inspire creativity in another? You've got both in writing and pictures! Very cool!
